Ex-Tudor Commodity Mind to go Solo

A commodity trading strategist from powerhouse hedge fund Tudor Investment Corp. is going into business for himself.

Steven Mathews has set up Flintrock Capital Asset Management in New York and will put his commodity trading background to work with a debut hedge fund in January.

Mathews spent more than a decade working for Paul Tudor Jones, the hedge fund billionaire and founder of Tudor Investment. Mathews left the company in 2008. He has worked a Wall Street analyst.

His startup will use Credit Suisse Group as its prime broker, Kleinberg Kaplan as its law firm, Butterfield Fulcrum as its administrator and Rothstein Kass as its auditor, according to a filing. Kirk Rostron, founder The Mt. Vernon Group, a Washington, D.C.-based company representing Mathews, declined further comment.

The HFN CTA/Managed Future Index has returned 0.77% through August.
