Julian Robertson Backing Infrastructure Venture

Renowned hedge fund great Julian Robertson has put his backing behind a private equity firm with a middle market infrastructure fund.

The venture is branded after Tiger Management, the company Robertson used to run that turned out Dwight Anderson, Philip Duff and Paul Touradji. His latest venture is under the stewardship of Emil Henry, a Wall Street veteran and onetime U.S. Treasury Department official. Robertson closed Tiger Management in 2000.

Henry headed the infrastructure private equity business for Lehman Bros. A telephone call seeking comment was referred to Henry, who did not return a voicemail message. Robertson could not be reached.

The fund will focus on Europe and the United States. Robertson in a statement called infrastructure a long term opportunity, adding the middle market is underserved.

Private equity has become a player in infrastructure investing with The Blackstone Group, The Carlyle Group and Kohlberg Kravis & Roberts investing in the space.

The fund is located in London and New York.
