Aussie Incubator Backs Ex-Macquarie Trio

Australian hedge fund incubator Ascalon Capital Management is backing a new firm managed by a trio of ex-Macquarie executives.

Helix Partners will specialize in global equities using a quantitative approach.

The new firm is headed up by former Macquarie Funds Group quantitative strategies executives Brandt Leahy, Justin Webb and Matthew Perone, Ascalon said in a statement.

All three Helix principals formerly worked for Citadel Investment Group and Delaware Investments.

Nelson Lam, head of investments at Ascalon, said Helix would provide an asset class and style that was missing from Ascalon’s portfolio.
