It may come as a great surprise to some that the man who lied to thousands of investors and may have taken them for something on the order of $65 billion allegedly cheated on his wife.

Those surprised will want to check out Sheryl Weinstein’s book, “Madoff’s Other Secret: Love, Money, Bernie, and Me,” due out on August 25. In her book, Weinstein claims she had an extra-marital relationship with Madoff.

Weinstein, who is an accountant, met Bernard Madoff more than 20 years ago. At the time, she was the chief financial officer of Hadassah, the Women’s Zionist Organization of America.

In December, after Madoff confessed to an FBI agent that he had been running a Ponzi scheme, Hadassah issued a statement saying that it appeared as though it had $90 million invested with his business.

Weinstein, who invested and lost her family's savings in Madoff's scheme, spoke at his sentencing hearing in June, making some of the fiercest condemnations voiced that day.

She told the judge that Madoff was an “equal opportunity destroyer” and a “beast.”

“Keep it in a cage behind bars,” Weinstein said.

Madoff is serving a 150-year prison term after pleading guilty.
